Pecos Run 'n Gun 2025 Course of Fire (Very Preliminary)

Saturday Morning: Be at the Valero gas station in Toyah on the north side I-20, ready to leave, at 7:30am. Larry Longoria will lead the convoy to the range.

This year's Run will be a solo event as opposed to the past few years where we required two-man teams.

This year will incorporate rifle and pistol stages.

Maximum allowed time on all ranges will be 3 minutes.

Course will be 5 miles long or very close.

There will always be a low crawl because low crawling is fun. If you do not think low crawling is fun, you need to practice more, until it is.

Communist Planks — There will probably be at least one Communist/ Woke plank. The plank will be a 1" x 3" pine board. The boards will be 4 feet tall with a one-inch black aiming stripe painted across the width of the board halfway up (2 feet). The plank will be held at a 70 degree angle by a target stand, and there will be a weight affixed to the top of the plank. The goal is to cut the plank in half with rifle fire. The weight on top serves to break the plank when it is sufficiently weakened, rather than waiting for the final fiber of pine to be severed.
IF YOU SHOOT THE TOP WEIGHT, YOU WILL RECEIVE A DNF SCORE FOR THE STAGE, SO DON'T.

Other stages are under design.

Expect a mix of rifle and pistol stages with rifle stages possibly ranging out to 400 yards and pistol stages at normal pistol distances.

 General INFO:

Friday — Range Officers meet Friday at Valero gas station in Toyah at 7:30 am

Saturday — There will be a convoy that forms Saturday morning in the Valero parking lot in Toyah on the north side of I-20 (there is only one). Look for Larry Longoria's Series IIa landrover and form up on him.  The convoy will leave the Valero promptly at 7:30am. Directions are posted here on the website. Shut any gates behind you.

NO steel-core ammo allowed on the course.

Porta-johns will be available.

Camping is allowed Thursday, Friday and Saturday night.

GATES — If at any point when entering or exiting the ranch, if you pass through a gate, shut it behind you. If you are in a group, and you are riding drag, close the gate. If in doubt, close the gate.

Bring shade. There is no shade other than what you bring.

Bring Water. There is NO potable water at the Ranch.

The course is approximately 5  miles long this year.

Clothing — some of the shooting positions are on rocky ground. Clothing that gives some protection to knees and elbows would not be stupid (just hot).

GENERAL PROCEDURES AND SAFETY
Pistols may be carried loaded at all times, on and off the course, so long as the pistol is holstered. Rifles will only be loaded on the command of a range officer. Rifles will be cleared in and out of each shooting station. A safety violation (coming into a station with a rifle with a loaded magazine inserted, or a round in the chamber) will result in your being asked to leave.

BEING READY. This year there will be no command to "make ready." Instead, on the command to "go," you will proceed to the first firing position, and at that point, make your rifle ready. Take care of your administrative tasks BEFORE you enter a range.

Moving with a loaded rifle — On some ranges you will need to move with a loaded rifle. It is a requirement that you put your rifle on safe before you begin your movement from a firing position. So, before you start to rise from whatever position you’ve managed to contort yourself into, put the thing on safe.

Time — Maximum time allowed at each shooting stage is 3 minutes.

Shooting aids — No shooting sticks, bipods and other shooting supports are allowed save what nature (Larry) provides within the shooting areas.

Targets will be shot from left to right on all stages unless you are told differently.
