Pecos Run 'n Gun 'n the Sun 2026 — 25th Anniversary Edition — September 19, 2026
Preliminary Course of Fire (as of May 22, 2026)
Stage One (Tribute to John Browning) Shooter will be familiarized with the Browning 1919A4 machine gun. Upon familiarization, shooter will deliver 20 rounds of suppressing fire on targets at 200 yards. Shooter will use good trigger control, firing bursts of 3-7 rounds, until ammunition is depleted. Any shooter who just holds down the trigger on the Browning will be shot. Time limit 2 minutes
* For the Record — We are 90 percent sure we will be able to have this as our first stage, but all of the pieces are not yet in place. With a little bit of luck, it will be a go, but, the best laid plans...
Stage Two (Pistol-only, 13 hits) Shooter will ground rifle as directed by Range Officer. On command shooter will score two hits each on two targets at approximately 10 yards (shooter may "double tap" targets, rather than alternating). After the fourth hit, shooter will advance to a second position, and score two hits each on two more targets. After the fourth hit, shooter will advance to third position, and score four more hits, two on each target. Finally, shooter will advance to a fourth position, and score one hit on a target at approximately 50 yards. Time limit 2 minutes
Stage Three (Rifle-Only, Lots of hits) Shooter will have one minute to score as many hits as possible on an array of targets at ranges of 100-200 yards. Score will be the number of hits scored. Shooter will begin the stage outside a trench. On command, shooter will enter the trench and begin engaging targets left-to-right, in order, one hit per target. On engaging the last (far right) target, shooter will move back to the starting position in the trench, and repeat, clearing the course as many times as possible. Time limit 1 minute
Stage Four — KNS Sponsor Range — Two suppressed AK-type rifles will be staged with three rounds loaded in each magazine. Shooter will engage two targets (alternating left-right) from standing at a range of 75-100 yards. At a second marked position, shooter will use an AR-type rifle with a spade grip firing mechanism to alternately engage two targets at 75-100 yards. Score is the number of hits. Time limit 2 minutes
Stage Five — The Wall (pistol-only, 12 hits) Shooter will ground rifle as directed by Range Officer. From simulated roof top, shooter will begin by shooting a "popper" at the far left of the targets. When the popper falls, a swinging target will be activated, and shooter will then score one hit on the swinging target. After hitting the moving target, shooter will dismount the rooftop and move down the wall to the right, scoring one hit each on two steel targets from each marked position, using the obstacles as simulated cover. Time limit 2 minutes
Stage Six — Down the Hill (rifle-only 9 hits) On command shooter will assume any suitable position and engage two targets at 200 yards, one hit each. He will then move forward to a second marked position and engage the same two targets with one hit each. Last he will move forward once more to engage five targets at 75 yards, one hit each. Time limit 2 minutes
Stage Seven — Ambush! (Rifle-only 12 hits). Shooter will begin in the back seat of the car, kneeling on the backseat, facing rearward. The rear window has been removed. On command shooter will assume a firing position inside the vehicle and engage 10 steel targets at 100-150 yards, one hit each. When the tenth target is hit, shooter will dismount and move to a marked position outside the vehicle, drop to prone, and engage two targets at 300 and 400 yards, one hit each. Time limit 2 minutes

Friday — Range Officers meet Friday at Valero gas station in Toyah at 7:30 am
Saturday — A convoy for runners will LEAVE the Valero gas station in Toyah, Texas at 7:00 am. Run order will be determined that morning. The Valero is the only gas station in Toyah, and is easily visible from I-20. There is only one Toyah exit.
Runners are welcome to arrive on range Friday night and camp (dry) no potable water, no fires. Do not try to use Google maps and such. Get directions if you have not been here before and want to come out before the convoy.
Saturday afternoon Cecil is cooking. Menu yet to be determined.
Camping is allowed Thursday, Friday and Saturday night.
GATES — If you pass through a gate, shut it behind you. If you are in a group, and you are riding drag, close the gate. If in doubt, close the gate.
Bring shade. There is no shade other than what you bring.
Bring Water. There is NO potable water at the Ranch.
GENERAL PROCEDURES AND SAFETY
Pistols may be carried loaded at all times, on and off the course, so long as the pistol is holstered. Rifles will only be loaded on the command of a range officer. Rifles will be cleared in and out of each shooting station. A safety violation (coming into a station with a rifle with a loaded magazine inserted, or a round in the chamber) will result in you being asked to leave.
“Make Ready” — At ranges requiring use of the rifle, you will be given the command to “Make Ready.” This applies to your rifle, and NOTHING else. It is not a free rest period, and it is not the place to admin your gear, your mags, or anything else. “Make Ready,” means load your rifle, and nothing else. Your ear protection should already be on, your pistol should have already been prepped, and your gear is whatever it is. Take care of your administrative tasks BEFORE you enter a range.
Moving with a loaded rifle — On some ranges you will need to move with a loaded rifle. It is a requirement that you put your rifle on safe before you begin your movement from a firing position. So, before you start to rise from whatever position you’ve managed to contort yourself into, put the thing on safe.
Moving with a drawn pistol — On some ranges you will need to move with your pistol in your hand, which of course, is loaded. Some pistols don’t have “safeties,” other than the good sense God gave you. Don’t be stupid. Use the safety if it has one. Keep the thing safe and pointed in a safe direction. Keep your finger off the trigger when not engaging targets.
Shooting aids — No shooting sticks, bipods and other shooting supports are allowed save what nature (Larry) provides within the shooting areas.
Targets will be shot from left to right on all stages unless you are told differently.
